Feature requests for the newsletter module

Feature requests for the Newsletter module

Please note that the deadline for your input is 9 December 2014!

The development team (Peter, Karin, Dirk) is planning to develop the Newsletter module, a frequently requested tool in a school or organisation.
What features do Website@School users expect to find in a Newsletter application?

Please tell us your wishes. We cannot promise to fullfill them. We have a limited budget.

The planning is to have the module available in February 2015.

With amicable greetings, Peter, Karin, Dirk.

Off the cuff, i think an import function would be nice. We have 100+ subscribers to our current newsletter in YMLP.

Dear Rieks, what(feature) do you mean with your suggestion? The volume of addressees. Or the possiblitiy to publish off the cuff, this is, without previous thought or preparation?

Just a few suggestions, more may follow...
The newsletter module should be able to:

-Import e-mail addresses from commonly used e-mail software.
-Import e-mail addresses from databases including commonly used spreadsheet applications.
-Attach files to the newsletter

Hi Anrik,
We will create an import funtcion. However, to investigate
all commony used e-mail cliets is a lot of work.
Importing addresses from databases and spreadsheets is over the top,
mainly because there are lots of tools around to extract
stuff from databases or spreadsheets, mostly in the form
of databaseX2csv or spreadsheetY2td (comma separated values or tab delimited).
Bear in mind that that improrting is most times a one time operation.
Do not spend too much of the (limited) budget on a one-time operation.

What about the form of the newsletter?
Kind regards,
dirk

Hello Anrik, Dirk, Peter,
My concern was about a possibility to import an existing adress list.
No fancy stuff, just a basic import function (excell, csv or tekst) will do just fine.

The newsletter we want to publish should have two elements:

1. The newsletter as it shows up when you open your mail. Text should take up about the same space as the corresponding picture. A 'read more' link links to the full article which is stored in a page on the corresponding website.

2. The full articles on pages on the website (hidden: without them showing up in the sites menu).

So the form of the newsletter should be a picture (say 200/250 px wide) next to a preview text with a header at he top. The picture-preview order should allow for a choice: picture left / text right and picture right / text left. Changeable for each article.

Other elements of the newsletter:

A. A nameplate: the name of the newsletter, possibly graphics or a logo, and perhaps a subtitle, motto, and publication information.

B. An 'unsubscribe' link

C. A link to a browser friendly version.

D. A browser version stored on the website.

E. A page on the website with links to the newsletter archive. Example:
http://www.vrijwilligershulp.nl/index.php/174

Responsiveness would be nice, i.e. readable on most devices (including smart phones).

Perhaps:
Bounce back rules.
Sending a test mail.
Storing concept mails.

I think (hope) that covers it for Vrijwilligershulp.nl
Regards,
Rieks van Rooijen

Re: Feature requests for the Newsletter module
